Government schools here have outperformed private schools in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII exams, a feat the Delhi government claims that has not been achieved in the past five years. While the pass percentage in government schools is 88.98, the same for private schools is 86.67.
Sisodia celebrates
This achievement was celebrated by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia, who took to Twitter to congratulate the students and “his team”.
“Delhi govt schools performed better than private schools. Well done! Team Education of Delhi. I’m proud of my team [sic].”
Mr. Sisodia personally congratulated Delhi’s toppers via a phone call. He also congratulated Delhi’s Sukriti Gupta, who is the all India topper with 99.4 per cent.
In a series of tweets, he wrote: “Result of Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas [RPVV] is 99.62 per cent. More than Delhi KVs [Kendriya Vidyalayas] (95.71 pc) & public Schools (86.67 pc).This is remarkable. 130 Schools achieved 100 pc result against 103 last year. 546 Schools achieved 90 pc and above against 525 schools last year.”
A statement said: “For the first time in the past five years, government schools have performed better than private schools. The pass percentage has also gone up to 88.91 per cent from 88.11 per cent last year.”
At 97 per cent, Kirti Dua of RPVV Civil Lines has topped government schools in Delhi in the science stream. In the commerce stream, the position was bagged by Aman Kumar of RPVV Shalimar Bagh at 97 per cent. Parul of Rao Tula Ram Government Sarvodaya Vidyalaya Surhera scored the highest of 96.8 per cent in the vocational stream, while the honours in the arts stream went to Dimpi Vashishth of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya Model Town at 95.8 per cent.
Talking about the government’s achievement, Education Advisor to Delhi government Atishi Marlena told The Hindu : “This achievement is a result of the many initiatives adopted in schools. We organised remedial classes for students last year and are doing it this year as well. There has been greater focus on the performance of students. I think all these things paid off.”
She said the government is hoping to improve the results further next year. The overall pass percentage in all school categories, including KVs, private and government schools, was higher for girls in the Capital at 91.71. The pass percentage of boys in Delhi was 82.51.
