‘Govt scheme will rob vendors of livelihood’

October 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - New Delhi:

The Delhi Congress, on Tuesday, claimed that the scheme for street vendors notified by the Aam Aadmi Party-led (AAP) Delhi Government would rob over five lakh street vendors of their livelihood, instead of protecting their trade.

This, even as the newly sworn-in president of the Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress, Barkha Singh, and several party cadre descended outside the residence of Chief Minster Arvind Kejriwal protesting against what they claimed was his government’s failure to prevent the increasing number of sexual assaults on small children.

President of the party’s Delhi chapter Ajay Maken alleged that the scheme formulated by the government for street vendors gave ‘all the powers to officials’ and would only increase corruption in the future in addition to fostering red-tapism.
