Govt. scheme will lead to disputes: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged the “Mukhyamantri Kirayedar Bijali Meter Yojna”, which seeks to extend the benefits of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s power subsidy to tenants, had been announced without any preparation or road map.

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta argued that this too, like similar government schemes announced recently by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was a symptom of his nervousness in view of the forthcoming Assembly elections.

“He is announcing schemes without giving any thought to the background and consequences of his declarations. He was in such a tearing hurry today that he failed to give timeline for its implementation. The scheme is likely to lead to a number of disputes between landlord and tenants,” Mr. Gupta alleged.

The BJP leader argued that there were a number of Supreme Court and High Court judgments which had a bearing on the issue and various provisions of the Electricity Act had to be taken into consideration.

“Declaration of the scheme without taking into consideration different aspects is likely to have an adverse impact. The scheme is unlikely to benefit most of tenants as they are unorganised and without evidence of tenancy. The tenants residing in unauthorised colonies, urban villages etc. are unlikely to draw any benefit,” Mr. Gupta argued.
