The Delhi government’s Forest Department on Tuesday filed a police complaint against the Delhi Golf Club for allegedly cutting trees illegally, a government statement said.

The government said that the range officer of the south division of the Forest Department had filed a complaint with the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station demanding that an FIR be lodged against the club for felling trees illegally. The complaint was filed on the basis of an inspection by the department that found 425 logs had been buried in pits on the premises of the club.

In its complaint, the department has said that more pits need to be dug out to ascertain the exact number of logs and that the police needs to investigate the matter. The government has asked for an FIR to be lodged under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994.
