Keeping in view the long-pending demand of the workers and industrialists at the Industrial Model Township (IMT), Manesar, here, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has decided to start a bus service to the industrial hub.

The buses would run between IFFCO Chowk and IMT Manesar.

Gurugram Police Commissioner Muhammad Akil will launch the service on Thursday by flagging off the service from IMT, Manesar. Eleven buses running on this new GMDA city bus service route, numbered 134, will be available at a frequency of 15 minutes. Already, 81 buses are plying on six routes in the city.

Starting at IFFCO Chowk, the stops on the route are Signature Tower, Star Mall, Sector 31 NH-48, Rajiv Chowk, Rajiv Colony, Naharpur Rupa Village NH-48, Hero Honda Chowk, Khandsa Village Foot Over Bridge (FoB), Narsinghpur FoB, Kherki Daula NH -48, Rampura Chowk, IMT Chowk, HSIIDC Complex, Naharpur Turn T-point, Banskushala, Maruti Circle, Aliyar Bus Chowk, Maruti Gate No. 2, Maruti Gate No. 4 and Dhana Mod. The service on the route will start from IFFCO Chowk at 6 a.m. and the last bus will depart from IMT Manesar at 7.25 p.m.

Manesar Industries Welfare Association general secretary Manmohan Gaind said the association had been pursuing this issue for a long time. There were very few linkages from Delhi, Gurugram, and HUDA City metro station to IMT Manesar. “We always required linkages with good frequencies, especially during morning and evening rush hours. And we are glad that we have been heard. The service will benefit the workforce in IMT,” said Mr. Gaind.

Suman Chawla, an industrialist at IMT, Manesar, said: “Some of my employees come by shared cabs. It is indeed not safe. We were waiting for this service to start for quite some time. We hope it to be pocket-friendly and safe for the commuters.”

MIWA president Arun Popli said that people were reluctant to work in this part of the city on account of poor connectivity, causing the industry to suffer, but with this service things might change and industry would attract good manpower.
