Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday stressed on the need to provide last-mile connectivity to commuters in the Capital.

Speaking at a review meeting, Mr. Gahlot also sought the status reports of the various pending and ongoing projects from the department officials.

Reports sought

“The reports will have to be submitted to the Minister in the next two-three days,” a senior official said.

Mr. Gahlot, who was administrated the oath of office and secrecy in the Delhi Cabinet on Saturday, also holds the portfolios of Law and Justice, Information Technology and Administrative Reforms. He is the third elected MLA to be given the said responsibility as he replaces Satyendar Jain.

He has been allotted the office of sacked Minister Kapil Mishra on the 8th floor of the Secretariat.

Transport is expected to emerge as a challenge for Mr. Gahlot, with proposals seeking the addition of buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) fleet yet to see the light of the day.

40 non-stop buses

Meanwhile, in pursuance of directions issued by the National Green Tribunal to introduce non-stop destination bus services, 20 such buses were added to the existing fleet by the DTC on Monday.

The number of non-stop destination buses now stands at 40.

These destination AC buses start from their originating points and run non-stop till their respective destination points.
