A fire broke out in a plastic waste godown in outer Delhi’s Mundka on Sunday morning. No casualties were reported.

Four-hour operation

A Fire Department officer said two dozen fire tenders reached the spot and managed to douse the fire after four hours.

Preliminary investigation has suggested that an overhead high-tension electricity line passing through the godown may have caused the fire.

A PCR call was made at 8.20 a.m. on Sunday about a fire breaking out at a plot in Tikri village where waste plastic was stored for recycling purpose, said a senior Delhi Fire Service officer.

The fire was doused at 12.35 p.m., after which a team of police and fire department officers went inside to inspect.

Forensic team called in

A forensic team was also called in to investigate the cause of fire.

“Workers at the godown said the fire was triggered by sparking from a high-tension wire. We are verifying their claims and have also asked the godown owner to join the probe,” added a senior police officer.
