Chief Election Commissioner for Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) polls V. K Kaul on Wednesday released the final list of candidates contesting for the four central panel seats.

There are five candidates standing for president, five for vice-president, eight for secretary and five for joint secretary. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has fielded Ankiv Baisoya for president, Shakti Singh for vice-president, Sudhir Dedha for secretary and Jyoti Chaudhary for joint secretary respectively. The ABVP said it will solve issue pertaining to scholarships for SC/ST and OBC students.

ABVP national president Ashish Chauhan said, “If we come to power, we will rid the university of Urban Maoists like Professor G.N. Saibaba, who brainwash students. We will talk to students to cleanse their minds of such influences.”

Mr. Baisoya spoke about the “misuse of power” by the National Students’ Union of India while in office, which ABVP is “determined” to fix. “Our major focus will be on safety of women on campus, student discount passes in Metro, cheap accommodation for students, construction of new hostels, installation of sanitary napkins vending machines in colleges and allocation of funds for sports infrastructure,” he said.

The ABVP will release its manifesto on Thursday.

The NSUI also released the names of its candidates — Sunny Chillar for president, Leena for vice-president, Akash Choudhary for secretary and Saurabh Yadav for joint secretary. However, the NSUI said it will introduce its candidates on Thursday.
