EPCA slams Rajasthan, U.P. governments for not controlling pollution

Letters sent to Chief Secretaries of both States in this regard

The Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority on Monday slammed Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan governments for not controlling air pollution, including burning of municipal solid waste, industrial pollution, and dusty roads among others.

EPCA chairman Bhure Lal directed Chief Secretaries of both the States to inquire into the matter and submit daily reports on measures taken to improve the situation. Mr. Lal made the comments after he visited Meerut in U.P. and Bhiwadi in Rajasthan.

‘Four kids with cancer’

“A massive fire was observed on the RIICO Industrial area’s allotted waste dump yard. Locals said on a daily basis, the garbage is set on fire for over four years now. One person was dead and four children in the area are affected by cancer, according to residents,” the letter to Rajasthan Chief Secretary read.

‘Water not sprinkled’

In the letter to U.P. Chief Secretary, Mr. Lal said after U.P. Gate up to Dasna interchange on NH-9, the road is under construction, but dust is “dominating” and water is not sprinkled on the roads.
