Eatery owner stabbed to death by 4, one held

Over non-payment of bill

A 30-year-old eatery owner (30) was stabbed to death allegedly by four men in Gandhi Nagar on Friday night, the police said. One of the accused, Mohit, has been arrested, they added.

The accused had a fight with the victim a week ago over non-payment of bill, the police said.

The victim, Shahbuddin, a resident of Ajeet Nagar, used to run a dhaba in the same area, and was from Bihar, said DCP (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad. Only two of the accused have been identified — Mohit and Sunil Pandit — while the rest other two are are yet to be identified, the officer added.

The accused had come to Shahbuddin’s eatery a week ago in a drunken state and had refused to pay the bill, the police said. A fight had broken out between them on the issue which was resolved at the police station.

“A fight broke out between the two groups when he asked for the money after it turned into a physical fight,” said Ms. Prasad.

On the same night, the victim had allegedly taken Sunil to the police station for assault and non-payment but the matter was amicably solved, the police said.

On Friday night, they visited the dhaba again and Shahbuddin asked them to leave.

“An argument ensued after which they stabbed Shahbuddin at least six times and fled the spot,” the DCP said.

A PCR call was made at 11.40 p.m. after which the police reached the spot and took Shahbuddin was declared dead at Dr. Hedgewar Aarogya Sansthan.

The police then traced Mohit to his house following another blood trail going in a different direction. which established that an accused has sustained injuries as well.

“Mohit had suffered a stab injury in his left thigh. He was under the influence of alcohol. He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital,” Ms. Prasad added.

An eye witnesses allegedly told the police that Mohit held Shahbuddin from behind and Sunil stabbed him in the chest and thigh.; during the incident, Mohit also suffered a stab would.“Teams have been formed to find Sunil and identify the rest,”other two accused,” the DCP added.
