Two persons died and six were injured after two men stabbed them in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Wednesday night, the police said on Thursday.
The attack is suspected to be a fallout of rivalry between two groups over dominance in the locality, they said.
Deceased Karan Veer (47) and Dinesh (32) were strolling outside their house in Mangolpuri’s I block when the accused stabbed them.
The attacker also injured other locals — Vinay, Irshad, Suresh and three others.
Suresh, a worker of Delhi Jal Board, was stabbed in front of his house in M Block, the police added. He is said to be critical.
They received a PCR call at 11 p.m. about several people being stabbed in Mangolpuri’s I and M blocks.
A van reached the spot and rushed the victims to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where Karan Veer and Dinesh succumbed to their injuries. The injured are undergoing treatment at the same.
“Karan was a painter while Dinesh worked as a labourer. The victims had no previous involvement in any crime,” said a senior police officer.
Son of Karan Veer, Jitendra, said the accused stabbed his father multiple times before fleeing the spot.
“We have no enmity with anyone in the locality. I have two siblings and my mother to take care of. The city is unsafe and the police are incompetent. My father was killed for no fault,” said Jitendra.
Meanwhile, the locals alleged that there is no police patrolling in the area.
Supremacy in area
Around 10 days ago, there was a fight between two groups over dominance in the locality, the police said.
In the fight, one Abhishiek was injured and died during treatment on Wednesday.
“We suspect that Abhishiek’s friend had come to the locality in search of Rancho, who was involved in the attack. They failed to find him and started attacking the locals,” said a police officer.
A murder case has been registered at Mangolpuri police station against unknown persons. “We have obtained a CCTV footage in which the two masked men were seen running and stabbing people. We have detained several people in the case. We will soon nab the accused,” said Rajendra Singh Sagar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).
