Two men have been arrested over the weekend for their alleged involvement in robbing the son of a retired judge off his car on September 12, the police said on Saturday.

The car has been recovered, they added. The son of a retired judge from the Ranchi High Court, Vishal Saurabh, was allegedly going to celebrate his birthday with friends when he was robbed of his car and held them hostage.

“He is a student of Sharda University. Around 1.30 p.m., two accused — Sachin [25] and Kapil [30] — hijacked his car outside the university. Vishal was with a female friend at the time. Kapil, who drove the car, held the victims' hostage at gunpoint. Sachin followed them on a motorcycle,” said Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police (Rural). The police said that Sachin, the prime accused who is a resident of Ecotech 3 area, has two robbery cases registered against him in the Noida. “In addition, he also had five such cases on him from Sonipat. He was arrested from Sonipat where he had a court hearing regarding a previous case. He only gave information about Anand Kumar [60] who allegedly tried to molest the girl. Kumar had met Sachin in Luksar prison where they had served time earlier,” said the SP. Kapil is absconding, the police added.
