DU students continue stir against high-rise

November 12, 2019 12:25 am | Updated 12:25 am IST - New Delhi

Multiple Delhi University students’ groups, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, National Students’ Union of India and others on Monday protested the proposed construction of a 39-storey building near North Campus.

The protesters say the building “would breach the privacy of women’s hostels in the vicinity and alter the cultural landscape of the area”. A student who had gone on a hunger strike continued his protest for the second day.

The NSUI carried out a march up to Vishwavidyalaya metro station. The building will end the dream of creating a closed North Campus, said NSUI.

The Delhi University Students’ Union and the ABVP carried out a rally from the Faculty of Arts to the construction site. ABVP Secretary Sidharth Yadav said the building was a “sordid episode of legalised larceny, symbiotic corruption and moral turpitude”.

He added that the members of the group would petition the North civic body, DMRC, the L-G and the officials of the Ministry of Defence to seek redressal.
