The Delhi Government’s Food and Supply Department has launched a drive against illegal refilling of gas cylinders and black-marketing of kerosene in the Capital. A surveillance team conducted raids on Sunday night and seized about 15,000 litres of suspected kerosene, the sale of which is banned.
According to official sources here on Wednesday, officials from oil companies were called to take samples of kerosene, which allegedly originated from neighbouring Haryana.
While the samples will be analysed in the fuel test laboratory, a first information report in the matter under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and relevant Control Orders was being lodged.
A five-member team of the department under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (West) Vimal Kumar was also deployed for inspection of two petrol pumps in the central district. The sources said the team checked nozzles at the petrol pumps and lifted samples of petrol and diesel for further testing in laboratory.
A drive was also taken up to check illegal refilling of gas cylinders, illegal sale of small LPG cylinders, sale of under-weight gas cylinders and diversion of domestic LPG cylinders by the delivery boys of gas agencies for commercial use.
Nine teams comprising members of the Food and Supply and Weight and Measures Departments were deployed in various districts and 11 challans were issued for underweight of gas cylinders and non-availability of verification certificates under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
According to sources, the department is also writing a letter to the oil and gas companies to give wide publicity to the fact that consumers should check the weight of gas cylinders before taking delivery.
FIRs will be lodged in future in the underweight cylinder delivery cases.
