A documentary film highlighting the technological and engineering challenges faced by the Delhi Metro during the construction of its ambitious Phase-II was screened at the International Film Festival of India in Goa.
The film, ‘The Dream Fulfilled - Memories of the engineering Challenges’, was screened on Saturday at IFFI, which kicked off in Goa on November 23.
Screened under the ‘Indian Panorama’ section of the festival, the film used 3D graphics to depict the various hurdles confronted by Delhi Metro engineers during the Phase-II, under which 125 km of the capital came under the Metro map.
The film also depicts the various engineering challenges that the DMRC faced during the construction work, in such an easy manner, that people with non-engineering backgrounds would also easily understand, DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said.
The film, which was introduced to the audience by IFFI Director Shankar Mohan, was widely appreciated by delegates and critics and is slated for a repeat screening on December 3, the concluding day of the 10-day long festival.
The film showcases the various challenges that the DMRC team faced such as the construction of a bridge with a 100 metre span at Okhla over railway tracks, the signature bridge over the Ring Road at Moolchand, the viaduct over Dhaula Kuan, the Zamrudpur mishap and its eventual timely completion, the construction of a steel made station at Chattarpur etc.
“DMRC’s second phase of construction ranks as one of the most challenging engineering projects taken up in any urban centre across the world.
“125 kilometes of Metro lines across seven corridors were built in only four and a half years, which is among the fastest anywhere in the world,” Mr. Dayal said.
