A 27-year-old doctor at Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital was allegedly beaten by attendants of a patient in the early hours of Wednesday at the hospital, the police said. Two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault.

Emergency ward

Four to five men came to the emergency ward, where Wasim Masuri was on duty from Tuesday night. One of the men, who identified himself as Hauz Rani resident Tahir Khan, had injured his hand, the police said.

Scuffle with ward boys

Mr. Khan asked the doctor to treat him quickly, even as the others accompanying him started throwing medicines and got into a scuffle with two ward boys, the doctor alleged in his complaint. The police said Dr. Masuri was thrashed when he protested against their behaviour.

Accused flee

The doctor managed to alert the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, who informed the police. However, the accused fled the spot, they added.

The police later arrested two of the accused, who are in their 20s.
