DJB panel to probe hiring of tankers during Congress rule

June 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Jal Board on Tuesday set up an inquiry committee to look into the hiring of water tankers from private companies during the Sheila Dikshit government.

The five-member committee, headed by the Joint Director (Finance), will give its report within 10 days, said a senior DJB officer. The panel will examine the processes involved in hiring of 400 stainless steel water tankers around two years back when the Ms. Dikshit was DJB chairperson.

“The probe is not against any particular individual. We got reports of wrongdoings in the hiring process, so a committee was set up,” said another top DJB official.

According to sources, the inquiry was ordered by DJB chairperson and Delhi Law Minister Kapil Mishra.

Since the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power in February, the DJB has cracked down on corruption within its ranks. In March, the DJB suspended officials for demanding bribes. In another case in March, three officials were suspended for submitting bogus bills for projects that only existed on paper.
