A budget of ₹5,137 crore for 2018-19 was approved by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the DJB chairperson, on Monday.

The budget passed by the board includes ₹2,350 crore for plan expenses and ₹2,787.63 crore for non-plan expenditures, a government statement read. The budget for this financial year was an increase from last year’s ₹4,629.12 crore, which was split into ₹1,755 crore for plan and ₹2,874.12 crore for non-plan expenses.

In addition, the board passed a proposal to lay both feeder mains and distribution mains for Brijwasan and Rajokri underground reservoirs and booster pumping stations, which would “bring about overall improvement in the water distribution system”.

Sewer lines

The board also cleared proposals to lay water lines in a few locations in Mundka constituency, including Sawda Ghevra and Jain Nagar Colony.

The DJB further approved the replacement and rehabilitation of sewers in Bawana and parts of south Delhi, including Saket, Pushp Vihar, Panchsheel Park, Soami Nagar and Greater Kailash.

The board also approved the appointment of the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi as the monitoring agency of the project to rehabilitate some sewer lines. The consultancy fee of ₹4.71 crore was approved.
