: The Delhi Government on Monday asked the striking employees of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to immediately return to work and warned them of “serious repercussions” if they continued their strike, which it said was illegal and was called without giving prior notice. Transport Minister Gopal Rai said no further public inconvenience and indiscipline would be tolerated.
Separately, the State Government decided to bear the cost of the entire education of the victim’s daughter as well as his wife’s ongoing treatment.
The Transport Department conveyed the decision to the family of the deceased driver.
Mr. Rai had earlier on Sunday announced a financial relief of Rs.5 lakh to the family and a permanent job in the department for one of its members. He said the public in the Capital had been put to an extreme inconvenience due to a “politically motivated” strike despite the fact that he had promptly gone to Rohini Depot and assured the employees of due consideration of their demands.
The Transport Department has also started drawing up an emergency plan for deployment of marshals in DTC buses.
The department in consultation with the Home Department would shortly announce its plan for deployment of home guard jawans and installation of CCTV cameras in buses, said the official sources.
The Delhi Transport Corporation unions have threatened to continue with the strike if their demands are not met, however, the DTC has said that they will ensure that buses ply on the roads.
