The Aam Aadmi Party government is likely to present its first full Budget in mid-June. While the State government was earlier planning to table the Budget for the financial year 2015-16 in the first week of June, sources said, the Budget session is now likely to be convened not before mid-June.
“The Budget session is likely to be convened by June 16 or June 17. It would be of 3-4 days duration,” an official said.
In the last week of March, the Delhi Assembly passed the vote-on-account for the first quarter of the current fiscal. The government had then decided to pass its first full Budget after concluding the process of participatory budgeting, which involves people in the 11 Assembly segments deciding budgetary allocation for development projects on a pilot basis.
Education, sources said, could see an increase in allocation of funds.
“Several promises have been made in the election manifesto like opening 500 new schools. Moreover, the government is laying lots of emphasis on improving higher education, especially vocational training. The Deputy CM recently announced opening of three new universities. So the government ought to increase funding for education sector,” an official said.
