Delhi air pollution: fines worth ₹9 lakh issued in 24 hours

To keep a check on rising air pollution in the city, fines worth nearly ₹9 lakh for various violations have been issued by the municipal corporations in the last 24 hours.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation issued fines worth ₹5,65,000; 70 challans for burning of garbage, 33 challans for emissions from construction activities; 22 for road dust and four for dumping construction and demolition waste in the open. Since October 15, when the Graded Action Response Plan (GRAP) kicked in, the civic body has issued fines worth ₹1.39 crore.

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation issued 21 challans worth nearly ₹2 lakh on Tuesday. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation issued 164 challas totalling ₹1,30,000.
