The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI), a pan-India organisation that works for traders’ rights, has written to Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri seeking time to meet and discuss civic issues related to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), especially the ongoing sealing drive, prevailing in the Capital.
CTI convener Brijesh Goyal and the body’s senior vice-president Pradeep Gupta, in a statement, alleged that despite being the Capital of the country, there were “various types” of civic problems plaguing Delhi which the DDA had “no such plan to overcome” or which could be “practically accomplished”.
“In Delhi, there is a fear of sealing in not only traders but also common citizens. Apart from this, there are so many problems with regard to unauthorised colonies, maps, etc., because of which the life of every common citizen living here is badly affected. Surprisingly, the DDA, which has the responsibility of the development of Delhi, has been working for years without the use of town planners and architects,” the CTI stated.
No consultations
Since 1980, the CTI alleged, neither town planners nor architects had been consulted by the DDA. Even the plan related to the division of the Capital into 18 zones, the CTI alleged, was currently in cold storage. The body demanded formation of a panel comprising representatives of the Urban Development Ministry, Delhi government, DDA, municipal corporation and representatives of traders, RWA, town planner, architect.
