Bhim Sena chief Chandrashekhar Azad and thousands of people from different Dalit organisations are marching to the site where a temple of Ravidas was demolished in Tughlakabad in Delhi, despite being stopped by the police.
The protestors were carrying sticks and flags.
M.S. Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (central), who was present on the ground, requested the protestors to go by bus as the location is about 16 km away and would cause problems for citizens.
The temple in Tughlakabad was allegedly demolished by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) earlier this month. The DDA later said that the demolition was carried out following Supreme Court orders.
Mr. Azad, surrounded by a circle of supporters, told The Hindu , “We are going to the temple and will protest till the temple is rebuilt.”
Around 3 pm, the protestors entered Connaught Place, a shopping hub, in the heart of Delhi.
