Congress guns for Tomar

May 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Congress, on Friday, reiterated its demand that Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar immediately resign from the Cabinet for possessing a ‘fake’ law degree. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee, addressing a press conference, said if Mr. Tomar was allowed to continue as a Minister, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would be justifying his position despite facts emerging that his degrees was fake.

“If Mr. Tomar is allowed to continue as a Minister, he may also try to influence the course of justice as law minister. As the matter is sub-judice, it is morally and ethically wrong for him to continue,” she said.

Ms. Mukherjee also reiterated the Congress party’s demand for the resignation of Mr. Kejriwal for shielding a minister accused of fraud in addition to backtracking on his stated stand on ethics and corruption.

After “riding the high moral ground on every issue”, Ms. Mukherjee said, Mr. Kejriwal should “practice what he preaches, and resign on ethical grounds.”
