Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met the family of a six-year-old rape survivor, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a rickshaw-puller in west Delhi’s Janakpuri on Monday.

In addition to assuring her family the “best legal help”, Mr. Kejriwal also announced ₹10 lakh as financial assistance for the girl. “I am horrified after seeing the condition of the girl in hospital. Met her father. What society do we live in? The Delhi government will provide ₹10 lakh financial assistance and best legal help,” he said in a tweet.

He was accompanied by Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal. “Mr. Kejriwal has announced compensation for the girl and has assured best lawyer to ensure death penalty for the rapist,” Ms. Maliwal said in a tweet.
