‘To prevent a Mishra-like rebellion’

After a face off with sacked Minister Kapil Mishra, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal is reaching out to his legislators. Mr. Kejriwal hosted a dinner for all the party MLAs, senior leaders and their families at his Civil Lines residence on Sunday.

‘Tough time’

AAP sources said the informal get together was planned to prevent a repeat of rebellions like Mr. Mishra’s against the party.

“It’s a tough time for the party and it’s in difficult times that we all need to stick together. One of us has decided to go against the party, but the majority is still with Mr. Kejriwal. One black sheep will not affect our strength and this dinner established that,” said Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav, adding that family dinners are held by the AAP at least twice a year.

Sources said barring two to three, all other invitees were present at the gathering. Photos and videos from the dinner were widely shared by legislators on social media. Chandni Chowk legislator Alka Lamba tweeted a video of the gathering. A few said that Mr. Kejriwal and his Deputy were trying to make themselves more accessible to the lower rung of the AAP, especially after a string of recent poll losses.

Many volunteers had allegedly complained to their legislators about the CM’s inaccessibility.
