A city-based singer has been booked on charges of rape, the police said on Wednesday.

They said that the accused has been asked to join investigation on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya confirmed that Punjabi singer, Amandeep Singh, has been charged under Section 376 (punishment for rape) based on the complaint of a Delhi-based woman.

The matter was reported in Mehrauli police station.

The victim’s statement was recorded in front of the Magistrate and her medical examination was conducted a few days ago, the officer said.

“The accused was granted interim protection from the court with direction to join investigation on Thursday,” a senior police officer said.
