A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable on security duty allegedly shot himself at a Metro station on the Airport Express line on Thursday.
Mukesh Kumar Tokas (40) shot himself around 2-45 a.m. while he was on duty at the New Delhi Express Line Metro station, said the police. He used his service assault rifle to inflict the fatal wound, said a police officer.
The incident took place while Tokas along with a fellow constable were returning to the Metro station after a brief check outside. “Though the other constable went inside, Tokas remained outside and shot himself,” said the officer. Even though his colleague was close to him, he did not have time to react, added the officer.
A CISF officer said Tokas was rushed to the nearby LNJP Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The reason behind Tokas' alleged suicide is not clear yet but sources said that he was depressed over some unresolved family issues.
Tokas is survived by his wife and two children, a son and a daughter.
The CISF has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Tokas was a resident of Alipur in Delhi and had returned from leave on December 28.
The constable had joined the paramilitary in 1997.
