A 23-year-old student of a gym training institute in south Delhi was allegedly confined and thrashed for two hours after he mistakenly brushed past the side mirror of an SUV in Sarojini Nagar on Sunday evening.

The victim, identified as Shubham Negi from Uttarakhand, said he had gone to meet a relative in Sarojini Nagar after his training class. He was passing through a narrow street at 5.30 p.m. when he brushed past the side mirror of the SUV.

“The driver became angry when I asked him to drive carefully. He got down from his car and called four other men. They took me to a basement in a building, where they thrashed me for two hours and also subjected me to corporal punishment,” said Mr. Negi.

“I kept begging them to leave me but they did not listen and kept thrashing me. My friends came to negotiate but they too were thrashed,” Mr. Negi added.

I was set free after two hours on the condition that the matter will not be reported to the police, he said.

“I came out, went to the police station and filed a complaint against the culprits. A policeman took me for medical examination and registered my FIR,” he added.

The police said the accused were identified as Lokesh Basoiya and Tarun Basoiya. They have been arrested and sent to jail.

“An FIR under relevant sections of IPC was registered at Sarojini Nagar police station. The medical examination of the victim was done. The accused were arrested on the same day and produced before a Magistrate,” DCP (South) Vijay Kumar said.

The victim said the accused managed to secure bail with a few hours of their arrest.
