Capital may chill to Rahman’s music in December

October 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:57 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi government, it has been reliably learnt, is working on a proposal to make what remains of 2015 “a winter of culture that the Capital will never forget”. So much so that after Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali, music legend A. R. Rahman is expected to perform in the city in December.

According to sources, Mr. Rahman has been approached to perform at a concert within days of Mr. Ali’s event.

“Winter, traditionally, has been the season when Delhiites come out in large numbers to be a part of cultural events and performances. This time, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is taking personal interest in enhancing the Capital’s profile as the culture capital of North India, for which Mr. Rahman has already been approached by the Delhi government,” a source close to Mr. Kejriwal told The Hindu.

Mr. Rahman last performed in Delhi in 2008. Earlier this year, a scheduled concert was cancelled owing to his work commitments.

The concerts come at a time when the Delhi government has made the licensing procedures easier with required permissions available online.
