A driver of a private cab aggregator company was arrested for allegedly robbing and killing a collection agent in Okhla, the police said on Monday.

Avinash Singh was arrested from Pul Prahladpur, they said. He committed the crime with the help of one Bhikam, a resident from UP’s Etawah district. On September 19, a cash collection agent was robbed off ₹11 lakh near Okhla underpass and shot, the police said. He died during treatment and a case was registered at Sarita Vihar police station. During investigation, CCTV cameras of the area were scanned. Two men on a bike were seen following the collection agent on the footage, the police said. Meanwhile, the bag in which cash was kept, was also recovered from a forest area near Govindpuri metro station.

“A team was deployed and Avinash was nabbed. We have recovered ₹81,600 cash and the motorcycle used in the crime from his house,” said Chinmoy Biswal, DCP (South-East). He said that his father was working as a guard in the cash van of one cash management company. One day, his father was asking an employee of a gas agency about their cash collection system. Avinash heard the conversation between the duo where the victim’s name came up as he collected the cash from the gas agency. “Avinash wanted to earn quick money and planned the robbery. He involved one Bhikam in the plan who arranged a pistol. They observed the victim’s movement for a few days before the attack. Bhikram is absconding,” Mr. Biswal added.
