A 42-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband before he killed himself at their residence in West Delhi’s Tagore Garden on Saturday, the police said.

The husband was allegedly depressed because of a failed business and mounting financial constraints.

Nisha and Govind Ram Gunwani, 45, stayed in a joint family at a four-storey house in the area.

Mr. Gunwani ran a printing business and the couple had three children. The incident took place in the afternoon, according to a police officer.

“Govind slit Nisha’s throat and then committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at their residence,” said an officer adding that no suicide note was found by the police.

The alleged murder and suicide were discovered by the couple’s family who then informed the local beat constable about it.

“The couple’s family has admitted that he was under severe stress over the last few months since his business was suffering. We are investigating the case,” the officer added.
