A 17-year-old minor was allegedly raped by her own brother multiple times over the last three years in Dwarka till she informed her employer about the ordeal. She was also impregnated by the accused in 2018. The accused has been arrested, the police said.

A senior officer privy to the investigation said the minor’s mother, a house help, had gone to the village a few days ago and the job was taken over by the girl.

On February 18, the girl went to work at the employer’s house with bruises on her face and body. “The employer, a woman, enquired her about the marks on her face and asked her if she was beaten up. Initially, she hesitated to reveal what had happened, but then told the woman that her brother had beaten her up. She also told her that the brother had raped her,” the officer said.

The employer immediately approached an NGO dealing with such cases who further helped the girl to approach the police.

Impregnated in 2018

“The girl, in her statement, said that she had been raped multiple times by her brother for nearly three years. He had also impregnated her in 2018 and got the child aborted ,” the officer said.

Based on the statement, a case under Section 376 (Punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered and the 24-year-old brother was arrested.

The police said that they are probing whether the mother was aware of the crime.

“When she was asked whether her mother knew about the pregnancy, she just said that she had informed her mother that her periods had stopped. The mother then told her to inform her brother. The accused then got her a medicine,” the officer said.
