A 14-year-old boy was mowed down by an unknown vehicle when he was learning to ride a motorbike in Krishna Nagar in Shahadra district, police said on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Class VIII student Divy Sharma.

The police said a PCR call was received at 7.39 a.m. about a road accident in Krishna Nagar. A police team rushed to the spot and found the teenager lying injured on the road. He was bleeding profusely. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Registration details

“On the basis of the motorcycle’s registration details, the family of the teenager was traced and he was identified. It was found that the motorcycle was registered in the name of his father Amit Sharma, who works in the private sector,” said a police officer.

“It seems the boy had sneaked out of the house with the motorbike while his parents were asleep. The parents said that Divy was fond of riding and must have been learning when the accident happened,” said the officer.

Prima facie it appears that the bike was allegedly hit by a vehicle from behind. However, the police are looking for the offending vehicle as there is no concrete information as of now.

Case registered

“We have registered a case under Section 304 A [causing death by negligence] against the unknown person. We are checking footage from CCTV cameras in the area to ascertain the identity of the vehicle,” added the officer.
