June 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - New Delhi:

A 12-year-old drowned while swimming in a canal in North Delhi’s Haidarpur on Thursday. His body was recovered on Friday.

Dev, a student of Class VII at a government school in Budh Vihar, was a resident of the same area. According to his father, Dev and his cousin had left home on Thursday evening on the pretext of visiting the fields to relieve themselves. Instead, they went to the canal passing through the area. Dev jumped in, while the cousin stayed out.

Realising he was drowning, Dev began shouting for help. By the time help arrived, Dev has vanished. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
