BJP MPs slam CM over ‘defamatory news’

May 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his government on Monday came under attack in Lok Sabha over the move against ‘defamatory news’, with BJP saying it was a reminder of the Emergency.

The issue was raised by BJP member from Delhi Meenakshi Lekhi without naming Mr Kejriwal and his government but obviously referring to it.

She said the Chief Minister of Delhi has said that defamation cases should be filed against those who do not write favourably about them.

At the same time, the “good journalists” from their perspective shall be encouraged through awards, Ms Lekhi said.

“Such a move is an insult to democracy. The House should condemn it,” the BJP member said.

“We cannot have a system in which such news is incentivised with the tax-payers’ money which the government (of Delhi) finds suitable. It’s an attempt to keep the truth away from the people,” she said. - PTI
