Traders from west Delhi’s Mayapuri market met Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma here on Tuesday.

The BJP claimed that the traders’ representatives expressed their gratitude to the party leaders for “its policy of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas and the help extended by the State BJP” following the recent altercation between traders and the police during a sealing drive on April 13.

MCC violation

“The Kejriwal government wants to mislead the traders by its false propaganda. Aam Aadmi Party leaders are also trying to provoke the traders of Delhi against the BJP but our party has always stood by the traders,” Mr. Tiwari said.

“The problem of law and order in Mayapuri during the sealing is unfortunate. At the behest of the Delhi government, the District Magistrate ordered the sealing. The traders were not even given notice of 48 hours. Sealing is also a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and the Election Commission should take action immediately,” Mr. Tiwari further said.

Traders’ Commission

Meanwhile, even as Mr. Tiwari blamed the AAP-led Delhi government for sealing “under a conspiracy”, Union Minister Vijay Goel claimed there were six crore traders in the country who provide employment to 30 crore people.

The traders were grateful for the party’s promise related to the constitution of a National Traders’ Commission.

The BJP’s manifesto promised the constitution of a Central Traders’ Commission to identify the problems of the traders and for solving them in addition to accident insurance of ₹10 lakh to traders registered under the GST in case of any tragedy and the provision for pension to small traders, Mr. Tiwari said.

“Traders face various problems. I apprised the Prime Minister about it and suggested the formation of a Traders’ Commission...This commission will help improving the relation between the government and the traders,” Mr. Goel said.

“Crores of traders want to express their gratitude to the Prime Minister for making a provision in the Sankalp Patra of the BJP for accident insurance of ₹10 lakh, pension after 60 years, a traders’ credit card, simplification of GST and also exemption from Income Tax up to ₹5 lakh...120 traders’ associations will express their gratitude to him at the Rashtriya Vyapari Dhanyawad Mahasammelan on April 19,” he added.
