Battered baby back on the ventilator

February 12, 2012 12:26 pm | Updated February 14, 2012 04:56 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The battered two-year-old baby girl battling for life at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences' Trauma Centre here had to be put back on ventilator support on Friday night, a few hours after doctors took her off it.

A doctor attending on her said she will be put on and off the ventilator till she can breathe without needing it, as keeping her continually on ventilator support was dangerous. Her condition continues to be critical, but was stable, he added.

“The culture reports of samples taken from the blood and chest showed no infection, but the brain continues to be infected. Only after the infection in the brain subsides, will a decision be taken on conducting the next surgery on her.” The baby was admitted to the Institute on January 18 with injuries to her head and arms and bite marks on her body.
