Bail refused to French national

June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A Vacation Bench of the High Court on Monday refused to grant interim bail to a French national who stands accused of participating in the assassination of Chilean senator Jaime Guzman Errazuriz on April 1, 1991. She was arrested in Uttar Pradesh in February this year while entering the country from the Nepal border.

A red corner notice had been issued against Verhoeven Marie Emmanuelle by the Interpol. She had challenged her arrest stating that the red corner notice had been recalled by Interpol on May 30, and sought bail till the next date of hearing on June 29. The judge said that the matter needed to be heard by the regular Bench which was hearing her extradition case. Her lawyers said that there was no reason to keep her under arrest since the CBI, pursuant to the court’s directions earlier this month, had already verified the addresses of those who were to be her surety as well as the place where she would be staying.
