Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Monday chaired a meeting convened by the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) to review progress on various infrastructure and civic issues.

In a statement, the Raj Niwas said topics discussed during the meeting, included improvement work at the Anand Vihar ISBT, status of air pollution in Jhilmil, Sahibabad and Ghaziabad industrial areas, and waste disposal problems at the Narela and Bawana industrial areas.

The meeting was attended by Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain; EPCA chairperson Bhure Lal; Additional Chief Secretary, Home; Commissioner, Transport; Commissioners of the East and North Delhi civic bodies; and representatives from various departments, including Northern Railway.

“The meeting started with a review of the action taken points of the previous meeting held at Raj Niwas on May 29. Mr. Baijal was informed about traffic management near Anand Vihar ISBT. The police said the traffic police deploys staff at all five major choke points daily. Mr. Lal sought deployment of officers throughout the day. He directed the Uttar Pradesh Police to make similar arrangements,” Raj Niwas stated.

The L-G’s office stated that Mr. Lal instructed the Northern Railway to finalise work and construct a second approach road. The Transport Department was instructed to complete radio-frequency identification (RFID) and rotary work at the earliest. Mr. Lal noted that the toilet complex has been completed by the Department.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee member secretary informed the L-G that work on converting industries to PNG was under way, including at Patparganj, Jhilmil and Friends Colony industrial areas. “The L-G directed the DPCC to complete the conversion process by September 30. Mr. Baijal also directed all agencies to prepare for coming winter season so that air pollution is contained in Delhi. Mr. Lal also asked all agencies to expedite work on the ground,” the statement added.
