Professor Atul Sood, from the School of Social Sciences, was elected as the President of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) on Friday.

Stating that the new JNUTA council is keen on restoring the statutory functions, Mr. Sood said: “In the past, discussions and policy changes were done without keeping the teaching-learning process at the front. Multiple changes were brought about through processes other than the statutory ones. They were not deliberated on at statutory levels and suggestions were made from outside. We want to keep the implementation of the JNU Act as our focus and its restoration.” Mr. Sood was elected after receiving 359 out of 518 votes. Chirashree Dasgupta and Ajith Kanna, from the Centre for Studying Law and Governance and School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies respectively, were elected as the vice-presidents of the JNUTA.
