AAP to observe ‘Dhoka Diwas’ on November 16

‘Regularising colonies a poll gimmick’

November 14, 2019 01:02 am | Updated 01:02 am IST - New Delhi

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced on Wednesday that it will observe ‘Dhoka Diwas’ on Saturday to protest against what it termed was the BJP’s “false promise” to regularise unauthorised colonies.

The announcement came as senior BJP leaders visited unauthorised colonies in the city on Wednesday as part of an outreach campaign. Senior BJP leaders told residents about the Pradhanmantri Uday Yojna scheme, which seeks to confer ownership rights to roughly 40 lakh citizens residing in such settlements.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the decision to ensure a respectable life for 40 lakh people living in unauthorised colonies of Delhi,” BJP national vice-president and Delhi in-charge Shyam Jaju told a gathering in south Delhi’s Deoli.

Calling the Centre’s announcement to regularise unauthorised colonies an “election gimmick”, senior AAP leader Gopal Rai alleged that the BJP’s intentions were “not genuine”.
