The Congress, on Monday, criticised the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government for splurging on hoardings, print and television publicity for “self-glorification of its Chief Minister” even as thousands of doctors across city hospitals went on strike.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee said the AAP government, which started “dharna and agitation politics” during its 49-day stint, was now getting a taste of its own medicine with its own employees now resorting to ‘agitation-politics’ to press for their demands.
“Doctors of government hospitals have decided to take the agitation route to seek basic facilities like security, drinking water, life-saving and generic drugs, more operation theatres and salaries on time. At crowded hospitals that lack basic facilities, the number of cases of assaults on doctors are increasing,” she said.
According to her, the Capital’s doctors had met Health Minister Satyendra Jain on February 27 to press for their demands and had also sent representations to the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister and the Lieutenant-Governor. Mr. Jain had then reportedly promised to fulfill these demands.
Ms. Mukherjee said it was disappointing that till June 23 no steps had been taken.
“The government has not looked into their demands citing lack of funds, even as it has been spending crores on self-promotion advertisements despite a Supreme Court ruling that no party in power should display ads carrying photos of its leaders,” she said.
