AAP MLAs protest outside Haryana Bhawan demanding release of water to Delhi, on Saturday.

Accusing the BJP-ruled Haryana government of reducing water supply to Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs protested outside Haryana Bhawan here on Saturday to demand that the Capital’s neighbour abide by water-sharing agreements.

DJB had moved SC

With Delhi facing a reduction in water supply from Haryana, the Delhi Jal Board had moved the Supreme Court on Friday seeking directions to Haryana to release adequate water according to a 1996 SC order.

The Delhi Assembly also held a discussion on the matter on Friday, with AAP MLAs demanding that Haryana start releasing Delhi’s share of water. Continuing to draw attention to the issue, many AAP MLAs and party workers protested outside Haryana Bhawan on Saturday. One of the MLAs, Sanjeev Jha said the Haryana government’s behaviour was “politically motivated”.

Another MLA, Madan Lal said, “The summer has now begun in Delhi and the demand for water is also growing. It’s unfortunate that the BJP government in Haryana is playing politics over water and denying Delhi’s fair share of Yamuna water.”
