AAP govt for ownership rights for landless poor

The Delhi Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution in favour of giving ownership rights to the landless poor who were allotted agricultural plots under a Central scheme in the 1970s and the 1980s.

The Sheila Dikshit Cabinet had in 2012 approved giving ownership rights to those allotted land under the 20-Point Programme, but the proposal was not cleared by the Lieutenant-Governor, who referred it to the President.

Taking up the issue earlier this month, the AAP government had asked Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal to approve the proposal or have it cleared by the Centre.

On Wednesday, the Assembly passed a resolution in favour of the move.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that all MLAs would meet Mr. Baijal and urge him to clear the proposal. Mr. Kejriwal said if need be the MLAs would also meet Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.
