More than a year after the Gurugram district administration put curbs on offering of namaz in open public spaces following protests by Hindu outfits and designated 36 places for the purpose, all restrictions have now been lifted.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri said there were no restrictions to offer namaz at the designated places on the occasion of Id on Wednesday. However, Duty Magistrates were deployed at 10 such places across the city in view of the law and order situation. People were free to offer namaz at the places of their choice, but without causing any inconvenience to the people in their vicinity, he said.
The 10 places where Duty Magistrates have been deployed include Idgah Masjid, National Highway-48; Tau Devi Lal Stadium Sector 38; Leisure Valley Park, Sector 29; Tau Devi Lal Park, Sector 23; Sanjay Gram, Gurugram; Idgah Rewari Road and HUDA Park Sector 14, Gurugram.
It was following a dispute over offering of namaz in open spaces in a ground in Sector 53 here last year, that the district administration had restricted the number of open public spaces for prayers. Besides the 36 designated open public spaces, the Muslims have been offering prayers at 20-odd mosques and private properties in the city over the past one year.
