The proposal to set up a Centre for Disability Studies at Delhi University is one step closer to reality after a panel, formed to make recommendations for the centre, recently submitted its report to the Vice-Chancellor.

The centre will look into research, training and teaching of disability studies. The plans have been in the works for a couple of years now and is mandated by the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, said Anil Aneja, chairperson of the eight-member panel.

Mr. Aneja said the centre is not only meant for students with disabilities but also to encourage disability studies and explore research possibilities in the field. The English Department has already launched papers at the MPhil, MA and even at the UG level on exploring the treatment of disabilities in various literatures, he added.
