Tata Motors on Wednesday said it would complete an exhaustive check-up of all its low-floor high-capacity CNG buses supplied to Delhi Transport Corporation by January-end. This move comes in view of a sharp increase in fire accidents that were recently reported in these new buses, raising passenger safety issue.
“There has been some wear and tear in these buses. We have started exhaustive check-ups of these buses, which will be completed by January 31,” Tata Motors President (Commercial Vehicle Business Unit) Ravi Pisharody told journalists at the Auto Expo here.
“We will also improve the preventive maintenance schedule for the DTC fleet supplied by us,” he added.
After some fire incidents apparently due to some technical snags, the Delhi Government had imposed a penalty of Rs.4 crore on Tata Motors. Mr. Pisharody, however, evaded a question on the penalty issue. “We are in talks with DTC on many issues. They are our valuable customers. These are matters of discussion between the customers and suppliers,” he added.
Tata Motors has so far supplied 950 low-floor buses to the DTC as part of the fleet modernisation project undertaken by the Delhi Government for the Commonwealth Games.
