Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday said Delhi needs a special Statehood status wherein the State Government is vested with the powers of the Delhi Development Authority, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Delhi Traffic Police to ensure proper governance and management in the Capital city.
Responding to media queries on a statement made by former Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Vijai Kapoor on Monday that full Statehood for Delhi was the key to ensuring its integrated development, Ms. Dikshit said by bringing the MCD, the DDA and the traffic police under the Delhi Government, governance would improve.
Mr. Kapoor had during the valedictory session of the three-day orientation programme for members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly stated that proper development of the State was not possible without coordination among all the local bodies
Earlier during the programme, Ms. Dikshit noted that fulfilment of public aspirations was the prime duty of the government and the legislature.Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri said the lectures on the topics of parliamentary importance and legislative proceedings given by intellectuals and experts during the orientation programme were very fruitful for the members of the House.
