Seven multi-level parking facilities of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), which have been lying unused for years, will be outsourced to the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).

On Thursday, the SDMC Standing Committee agreed to outsourcing the parking lots, which were supposed to have been completed before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Phased opening

While some of the facilities are yet to be completed, Standing Committee chairperson Shailender Singh said the parking lots would be opened in phases, with the ones in Hauz Khas, Munirka and Kalkaji being opened first. In the next phase, the parking facility at Subhash Nagar would be handed over to the DIMTS, followed by those at Rajouri Garden, Jangpura and New Friends Colony.

In total, the parking facilities would have the capacity to accommodate 2,300 vehicles. As per the draft memorandum of understanding, the contract would be for one year, with the parking rates in the multi-level facilities being lower than the surface parking lots. Users would have to pay ₹10 per hour, while the surface parking lots will charge ₹20 per hour.

“It has become important to curb the unauthorised way vehicles are parked on roads,” said Mr. Singh.
